How do I look after my artwork?
ALL PAINTINGS AND STUDIES
It is generally advised to avoid hanging or storing paintings in damp conditions, direct sunlight, temperatures below 10° C or above 30° C. This could cause mould, fading, mildew, or warping of the wood/panel. When framing your artwork, it is best to use cotton gloves or dry hands. Dirt and oils can mark or damage the surface. Nails or rings could also cause scratches.
OIL & ACRYLIC PAINTINGS
Your painting has been varnished using Winsor & Newton satin varnish. This will help protect it from sunlight fading and from dust particles bonding to the surface. If dust settles on the painting, simply take a clean, soft, microfibre cloth and gently sweep away the dust.
CHALK PASTEL PAINTINGS
Your painting has been sprayed with Winsor & Newton professional fixative. This is a clear liquid spray that protects the artwork and preserves the piece for display. It will help to stop pastel dust from sticking onto glass once the picture is framed. However, care must still be taken when handling to prevent any smudging of the artwork. When framing, chalk pastel paintings should be framed with a glass or Perspex front to protect them.
STUDIES
Pencil drawn studies have not been sprayed - please take care when framing to avoid smudging.
